How the app works

    Capture

    Shoot the page in the app, or pull in images that are already sitting in Photos. A batch stays one document rather than a pile of separate scans: up to three pages per transcription on the free tier, twenty with Encria Pro.

    Transcribe

    Nothing to set before you start: the language of the page is detected on the fly, including a notebook that switches between two languages. What comes back is the word-for-word reading, kept for good, with “Improve after transcription” layered on top unless you turn it off.

    Verify and share

    Verification happens in place: the transcription sits under the photo of the page, uncertain words underlined, so a doubtful reading is settled with a tap instead of a full re-read. Then edit, copy, or send the finished text wherever it is going.

Most handwriting apps stop at recognition. Encria treats a transcription as a draft you can audit, correct, and keep.

The raw reading is never lost

Encria always keeps exactly what it read, word for word, and that raw text stays available for verification and recovery. “Improve after transcription”, on by default, adds one AI pass that repairs reading errors, fragments and broken sentences while preserving your spelling, abbreviations and writing style; a dependent “Correct spelling” switch, off by default, also fixes agreement, punctuation and grammar. Turn the improvement off for letters, archives, or anything you intend to quote as written.

Uncertain words, flagged

Every word comes with a confidence score, and the ones the engine is unsure about are underlined under the photo of your page — tap one to correct it. Recognition can be wrong; an app that never says where it hesitated makes that impossible to notice.

It learns from your corrections

Corrections are remembered on your device and reused in later transcriptions, on the free tier as well. With Encria Pro, reusable writing profiles hold your vocabulary, proper nouns, and abbreviations, so the same name stops being misread every week.

Local library, no account

Your notes live on your iPhone and iPad. Browse your history, edit, and export without signing up — and without your notebooks turning into someone else’s cloud folder.

The free tier covers 10 transcribed pages a month with the raw reading, the AI improvement pass, flagged uncertain words, remembered corrections and the local library — everything above except reusable writing profiles, which come with Encria Pro. Pro also raises the allowance to 500 pages a month and takes a single transcription from three pages to twenty, for €5.99 a month or €39.99 a year. If you have one box of archives to get through rather than a monthly habit, non-expiring page credits are offered in the app as a one-time purchase instead of a subscription.

Requirements

iPhone and iPad
Encria is a native app for iPhone and iPad and requires iOS 18 or later. The larger iPad screen makes checking the text against the photo of the page particularly comfortable.
No account
Nothing to create, nothing to log into. Your documents, edits, and writing profiles stay in a local library on the device.
A photo is enough
Photograph a page or import images from Photos. Images are sent for transcription only when you start one, and our server keeps no database of your documents or images.
