Privacy policy

Last updated: August 15, 2026

Encria is built so your notes stay yours. This page describes, in plain words, what the app does with your data.

Your documents stay on your device

Your photographed pages, transcriptions, corrections, and writing profiles are stored locally on your iPhone or iPad. No Encria account is required, and we keep no copy of your library.

What happens during a transcription

When you start a transcription, the images of your pages are sent to our server, which relays them to our text-recognition provider, currently Mistral AI, to produce the result. Unless you turn off the AI improvement pass (it is on by default), the images, OCR text, and any instructions you provide are also sent temporarily through OpenRouter to the selected model so it can verify the transcription against the visible handwriting. Your saved word corrections (the misread form and your fix) travel with each transcription request so the models can recognize your recurring words; they remain stored only on your device. These requests require zero-data-retention routing and exclude providers that collect the data. This only happens when you explicitly start a transcription. Our server keeps no durable database of your documents or images, and the content of your pages is not logged. Mistral states that API data is not used to train its models, but inputs and outputs may be retained for up to 30 rolling days for abuse monitoring unless Zero Data Retention is enabled.

Anonymous analytics

The website uses our self-hosted Umami instance for aggregate audience statistics and PostHog Cloud EU for a few manual product events such as language selection and App Store clicks. The iOS app uses PostHog Cloud EU for anonymous app lifecycle and product events such as starting or completing a transcription, exporting a document, or viewing the subscription screen. These services may receive limited technical metadata such as locale, app or browser version, device category, referrer, and approximate country. They never receive your page images, transcription text, corrections, profile names, custom instructions, payment details, name, or email address. The one exception is feedback you send yourself: when you rate a transcription in the app, the rating and any comment you choose to write are transmitted anonymously and used only to improve recognition — nothing is sent unless you tap Send. We do not use this data for advertising or cross-app tracking. Web analytics sets no tracking cookie and respects your browser’s Do Not Track setting; app analytics can be disabled at any time in Encria Settings.

What we don’t collect

No account, no advertising profile, no selling of data. This website uses no tracking cookies.

Subscriptions

Encria Pro subscriptions are billed by Apple’s App Store, so we never receive or store your payment details. RevenueCat processes an anonymous purchase history, receipt and subscription status, and limited technical device information so Encria can validate purchases, unlock Pro, and measure subscription performance. Encria does not send RevenueCat your name, email address, or an advertising identifier, and this data is not used for advertising tracking.
